I'm officially lame
posted by Kevin Wolff on 20 Sep 2007

I know a lot of people have thought this for a long time now, but I've officially crossed into the "lame" category.  Or rather, I have accepted the fact finally.

Something strange is going on with me.  Our car was experiencing troubles so we ended up buying a minivan.  The strange part of the story is that I'm in love with it.  I find myself thinking about it and wanting to go for a drive.  I could have my signals crossed though.  It could just be that I'm excited to have a car that works.  Who knows.  In any case, I'm now a minivan driver and I'm not ashamed to say it.  The kids both really like it too.  Mason and Porter can now actually see out of the vehicle as we drive.

The second part of this story will equally make me look like a girl, but, I'm pretty stoked to have the new van because we're driving down to Vegas in November to watch Celine Dion... and I'm looking forward to that as well.

I'm still jogging regularly.  Sort of.  I get killer shin splints when I run to the point where I can barely walk.  I think they are worse when I overexert myself so I try to give myself a day or two between runs and I have cut back from 6k to 4k.  They've gotten a lot better now so I may slowly try to get back into the 6k runs.  I put an audiobook on my ipod so Stephen King keeps me company and it takes my mind off how much I hate running.

The other day I was late taking the garbage out so I had to grab the garbage cans and take them across the street to the garbage truck as it made its second pass.  After dumping the garbage I started to walk back to the house.  Just as I came out from the back of the truck a hummer flew by at about 70 clicks and just about took my head off with its mirror.  I admit that I was totally careless and the thought of looking both ways before crossing didn't cross my mind.  At the same time... that guy was flying!  If I had been .5 seconds faster I would be dead right now. It was about as close to dying as I can recall.  Just after, I looked over at my house and Mason was standing in the doorway watching me.  I'm glad he didn't join me doing the garbage like he usually does.  You just never know when your ticket is up.

Mason has started preschool.  He really likes it.  I don't really know what he does there because every time I ask him he gives me one of two answers.  1) "I played."  2) "I don't want to tell you."  That's his new answer for "I don't have the answer at the top of my head and I can't be bothered to think hard enough right now, so, leave me alone."

Porter continues to try to keep up to Mason.  He's very talkative but he still regularly needs an interpreter.  He's such a loud kid.  Everything he says or does is loud.  He even drinks loud with bug throaty gulps.  He's such a character.

So... I guess that's about it for now.  Elise will have to add her two cents in cause I can't remember everything that's gone on in the past month or so.

Oh.. and just as a side note.  Today the US dollar and the Canadian dollar are equal.  It's the first time in 31 years.  What's happening to the world?

Yeah, you are crazy lame.

...but you didn't actually get killed by that car, so you're lucky & lame.

It's been over two months since you've posted anything. I was starting to think you did get hit by a Hummer. We're looking at a minivan tonight actually, so it can't be that lame if I'm doing it, right?

I can't back you up on the Celine Dion thing though, I just can't.

P.S. What kind of minivan did you get?

We got a Dodge Grand Caravan.

wow, I can't believe you actually posted and didn't get hit by a hummer! Just goes to show miracles never cease. Congradulations on getting a minivan, however, we've had 3 different minivans in 7 years and I really, really hope we will never own another one, (i was always backing into things). Although I must admit it's a bit of a step up from a Ford Festiva, we're only owned 2 of those, thank goodness!

It was funny to look at the pics of your van because right away I yelled at Marc and said, Look their van looks exactly like ours-same color and everything. As much as I hate being 25 driving a van, I do love it too with all the room. Cute pic of Elise and the boys.
